Job Introduction

BBC Verify was established nearly two years ago, bringing together the BBC's best analysts, fact-checkers, data specialists, and designers from across domestic and global teams with expertise in data journalism, disinformation, and open-source verification techniques.

It is launching a new presence on the BBC News website—a live page showcasing the team's work—providing an accessible, real-time display of BBC Verify's activity. This transparency promotes our content and demonstrates how we know what we know.

This Senior Designer role is within the BBC Verify live team, which presents its reporting in a real-time, live format (often called a "live blog") to BBC audiences worldwide.

You will develop and deliver digital infographic content, ensuring it meets high creative and editorial standards in line with BBC guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

As a Senior Designer, you will work on a variety of stories, producing distinctive digital content. Your role involves visualizing verification, bringing satellite imagery to life, creating maps, and executing everything from simple diagrams to complex data visualizations.

Collaborating with the BBC Verify team, you will play a central role in open-source reporting, translating editorial content and audience needs into innovative, inclusive experiences across all platforms—digital, broadcast, and social.

You will work with infographic designers, motion designers, UX designers, open-source analysts, journalists, data journalists, data scientists, TV producers, and web developers.

Candidate Requirements

• A portfolio demonstrating effective work, including relevant design projects, process, skills, and experience.
• Experience in a newsroom or investigative setting using open-source intelligence techniques.
• Skills in information graphics and data visualization: creating clear, engaging diagrams that explain complex information, sourcing and processing data, and storytelling through data visualization techniques.
• Map design skills: creating various maps from simple locators to complex satellite imagery with data overlays, using relevant tools and processes.
• Visual design skills in typography, color, and layout.
