Job Description:

Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG. Applications are invited for a Senior Infectious Disease Modeller and Health Economist to join a team working with Associate Professor Koen Pouwels. This research programme focuses on modelling the health-economic impact of different interventions aimed at reducing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in various countries, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

You will join an expanding group of infectious disease modellers and health economists based at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences (NDPCHS). The successful applicant will work primarily on modelling the impact of different AMR-related interventions by combining infectious disease transmission models with cost-effectiveness models applied to data from various LMICs. The work will focus on estimating which interventions to prioritise in order to reduce AMR and improve overall population health within existing budget constraints, as well as estimating which future research to prioritise to reduce decision uncertainty.

The work will be part of the Global Antibiotic Policy initiative (GAPi) and the Global Low-and Middle-Income Country Primary Care Antimicrobial Stewardship Trial using the WHO AWaRe system (the AWaRe 1 Trial) projects. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with other (senior) infectious disease modellers and health economists, as well as DPhil and pre-doctoral students currently working on various other infectious disease-related projects.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in infectious disease epidemiology/health economics or a related quantitative area. The post-holder will have experience with building infectious disease transmission models or the application of ordinary/partial differential equations in a different area of research such as macroeconomics. You will also have a track record of producing high-quality research, as evidenced by high-quality peer-reviewed publications.

You will be based in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work but you will be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager. The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust for two years in the first instance.
