PSC Consulting is seeking an experienced HVDC Engineer to work on offshore wind, HVDC transmission and grid projects. You will focus on HVDC converter stations and VSC technology, collaborating with industry specialists.
With about 3–5 years of direct HVDC experience, you will contribute to design, reviews, commissioning and consultancy activities, while developing your expertise in a global consultancy environment and hybrid/remote working across the UK.
Are you an experienced HVDC Engineer with expertise in HVDC converter stations and voltage source converter (VSC) technology, looking to work on major renewable energy and transmission infrastructure projects whilst developing your expertise alongside industry-leading specialists?
Here at PSC we are growing our HVDC capability to support an expanding portfolio of offshore wind, HVDC transmission and grid infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. We are specifically looking for engineers who have developed meaningful experience within the HVDC converter space, whether through converter station design, converter technologies, commissioning activities, owner's engineering assignments or technical consultancy roles.
This opportunity would suit an engineer with approximately 3–5 years or more of dedicated HVDC converter experience as part of a broader engineering career, who is looking to apply and further develop that expertise whilst working alongside some of the industry's most experienced HVDC and power systems consultants.
You’ll collaborate with highly experienced consultants, OEMs, developers and network operators, gaining exposure to a broad range of technically challenging projects across the full project lifecycle. From technology selection and converter station design through to design review, commissioning and operational support, you’ll help deliver critical transmission infrastructure that enables the integration of renewable energy onto power systems around the world.
The energy transition is vital to our future and here at PSC, we are compelled to make a difference. We are specialist consultants to the energy industry, an independent firm with global operations.
Our teams have been tackling the thorniest problems for some of the most prominent industry players for 30 years. We provide critical project consulting support for large energy clients, renewable developers, sustainable energy initiatives, and everything in between.
Our vision is to empower people to transform the energy industry so that, together, we will power a more sustainable world. We do the right thing, we foster bright ideas, we invest in the future and we celebrate success.
At PSC we feel work should enhance your life, not dominate it. We:
We encourage our people to continually learn, grow and expand their skills and knowledge. Perhaps you would like to complete a Master's or a PhD but haven't done so yet. We will reimburse 50% of your course fees, up to a maximum of £5,000 per year.
We have been working in a distributed fashion for years and are open to hybrid and remote working across the UK.
This role offers a broad range of technical and consulting responsibilities, with a particular focus on HVDC converter stations and associated technologies.
Typical activities include:
You will also have opportunities to represent PSC in industry forums, working groups and conferences, whilst building relationships with clients and supporting the continued growth of our HVDC capability.
We are particularly interested in speaking with engineers who have developed meaningful hands-on experience within the HVDC converter sector and are looking to become part of a specialist consultancy where that expertise can be further developed and shared across the wider business.
Your experience may have been gained with utilities, developers, OEMs, EPC contractors or engineering consultancies, but you will already have established a strong technical foundation in HVDC converter stations, converter technologies and transmission infrastructure.
Ideally you:
