Job description

Are you an ambitious Protection & Control Engineer with around 3-5 years of experience, looking to work on major renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects whilst developing your expertise alongside industry-leading specialists?

Here at PSC we are growing our Protection & Control team to support an expanding portfolio of renewable energy, transmission and distribution projects across the UK and internationally. We're looking for engineers with experience in protection studies, relay settings, grading studies, scheme design and power system analysis who are keen to take the next step in their careers.

You’ll collaborate with highly experienced consultants, work directly with clients and gain exposure to a broad range of technically challenging projects. Alongside delivering core Protection & Control services, over time you'll have the opportunity to develop skills in advanced power system studies such as RMS studies, EMT studies, harmonic studies, stability studies and sub-synchronous oscillation studies.

The energy transition is vital to our future and here at PSC, we are compelled to make a difference. We are specialist consultants to the energy industry, an independent firm with global operations. Our teams have been tackling the thorniest problems for some of the most prominent industry players for 30 years. We provide critical project consulting support for large energy clients, renewable developers, sustainable energy initiatives, and everything in between.

Our vision is to empower people to transform the energy industry so that, together we will power a more sustainable world. We do the right thing, we foster bright ideas, we invest in the future and we celebrate success.

At PSC we want work to enhance your life, not dominate it. We:

  • Understand that everyone has a personal life and provide a flexible work environment - you are an adult and we trust you to get the job done.
  • Provide amazing growth and leadership opportunities in an autonomous role.
  • Are a highly collaborative worldwide team of professionals defining the future of this industry.
  • Offer competitive compensation & benefits including BUPA private medical insurance, life insurance and annual income protection.

We encourage our people to continually learn, grow and expand their skills and knowledge. Perhaps you would like to complete a master’s or a PhD but haven’t done so yet. We will reimburse 50% of your course fees, up to a maximum of £5,000.00 a year. We have been working in a distributed fashion for years and are open to hybrid and remote work (from the UK).

What You’ll Do:

This role offers a broad range of technical and consulting responsibilities, providing exposure to projects across the full project lifecycle. Typical activities include power system analysis; generator connection studies; protection setting schedules; grading studies; conceptual and detailed design; commissioning support; fault investigations and other specialist consultancy services related to power system protection. Alongside this, you will regularly engage with clients, helping to deliver high-quality technical solutions and advice.

You will also get opportunities to represent PSC in industry forums, working groups and conferences as well as taking part in client presentations. You will be working closely with a collaborative global team of expert Senior and Principal Consultants, alongside a wider network of talented engineers across all stages of their careers.

You:

Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic, technically minded engineers, with approximately 3-5 years of relevant experience in Protection & Control of transmission/distribution systems. Your primary expertise will be in the design of protection systems for high voltage networks, including protection application, relay settings and scheme designs.
