Job summary

Warwickshire County Council is seeking an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join our Structural Highway Maintenance Team. You will lead investigation, design, procurement and delivery of highway maintenance schemes, ensuring safe, on-time, within-budget delivery and high quality standards across carriageway, footway and drainage projects.

You will manage complex programmes, work with contractors and stakeholders, and provide technical guidance while ensuring CDM and safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • A relevant engineering qualification or significant equivalent experience in highway engineering.
  • Experience managing highway maintenance,
  • Strong project management, budgeting and programme management skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex technical information and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting junior staff.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements, including CDM regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of highway structural maintenance and improvement schemes.
  • Investigate, design, cost and manage highway maintenance projects including carriageway and footway resurfacing, reconstruction, structural patching, surface dressing and drainage improvements.
  • Manage complex projects from inception through to completion, ensuring compliance with technical, contractual and statutory requirements.
  • Develop and coordinate annual and longer-term maintenance programmes.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets, providing financial forecasts and performance reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with contractors, suppliers and stakeholders to achieve programme objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, design standards and quality requirements.
  • Represent the Council at meetings with elected members, parish councils, residents and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with policy development, asset management planning and continuous improvement of the service.

Warwickshire County Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Highway Engineer to join our Structural Highway Maintenance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering Warwickshire's highway structural maintenance and capital investment programmes, helping to maintain and improve one of the county's most valuable assets. Working closely with the Delivery Service Manager, operational teams, and our term maintenance contractor, you will lead the investigation, design, programming, procurement and delivery of a wide range of highway maintenance and improvement schemes. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role offers a varied workload across structural carriageway and footway maintenance, highway drainage improvements, surface treatments, reconstruction schemes, and small-scale capital projects.

Key Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel throughout Warwickshire
