Job summary

Kier in the UK is seeking a Senior Highways and Drainage Engineer to join a leading regional team. You will lead the design and checks for highway and drainage projects, ensuring buildability and safety across a broad portfolio.

Based in one of many locations with agile/hybrid working (up to 1-2 days from home), you should be an IEng or progressing toward CEng, with strong collaboration and communication skills for multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) with relevant experience.
• Experience in highways and drainage principles and applicable standards.

Senior Highways and Drainage Engineer

We're looking for Highways and Drainage Engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

Locations:

Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours:

40 hours per week – flexibility on hours available if desired

Join us as a Senior Highways and Drainage Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline – supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

• Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in highways and drainage engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards?
• An Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with an equivalent level of experience?

What will you be responsible for?

Leading the delivery of a broad range of construction engineering services, including some or all of: highways and drainage temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE, EA procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for multiple projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, other individuals and the wider team, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.
