Job summary

Balfour Beatty Living Places is recruiting a Ganger to lead a small highways team in Buckinghamshire. You will organise on-site works, supervise operatives and ensure safety, quality and efficiency across reactive, routine and emergency maintenance.

The role requires experience in highways or civil works, strong leadership, and the ability to adapt to emergencies and out-of-hours work. A range of relevant qualifications is preferred, with training provided as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong commitment to health and safety.
• Experience in highways maintenance, construction or civil engineering.
• Ability to organise work and provide clear direction to site operatives.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Flexible and adaptable approach.
• Willingness to participate in emergency and winter maintenance services.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a small team of highways operatives on site.
• Deliver reactive, routine, cyclical and emergency highways maintenance activities.
• Ensure safe systems of work and compliance with health, safety and company procedures.
• Perform minor civil engineering works (drainage, kerbing, concreting, patch repairs).
• Plan and monitor daily activities against work programmes.
• Deploy plant, machinery, equipment and resources effectively.
• Complete work instructions using handheld devices.
• Support out-of-hours emergency and winter maintenance when required.
• Communicate professionally with customers, subcontractors and the public.
