Job summary

NRL in London is seeking a Senior High Voltage Engineer responsible for the design and delivery of HV/MV infrastructure projects. You will lead complex substation and grid connection work, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and liaising with clients and regulators.

The role requires 8+ years in HV/MV engineering, a degree in Electrical Engineering, and strong knowledge of IEC/BS/EN/IS standards. Office-based with client meetings and site visits across Europe, the UK and Ireland.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8–15+ years’ experience in HV/MV electrical engineering.
• Proven track record in delivering HV substation projects up to 400kV.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, BS, EN and IS standards.
• Experience in substation design principles and utility/grid connection requirements.
• Familiarity with design software and tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PowerFactory and PSCAD.
• Excellent communication, reporting and client engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of HV and MV infrastructure projects, including AIS/GIS substations, grid connection infrastructure and interconnectors.
• Develop and review single line diagrams, substation layouts, protection and control philosophies, and HV cable systems.
• Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including internal engineers, external consultants and subcontractors.
• Interface directly with clients, utilities, contractors and regulatory bodies.
• Support the development of technical standards, team recruitment and mentoring initiatives.
• Review technical studies such as load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, harmonics and earthing studies.
• Oversee project planning, tendering and technical bid reviews.
• Conduct site visits, inspections and commissioning activities as required.

Join a leading organisation in London as a Senior High Voltage Engineer, specialising in the design and delivery of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) infrastructure projects. This role is perfect for an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in substation design and multidisciplinary project delivery. You’ll play a key role in developing innovative solutions for energy infrastructure projects while working with some of the most respected experts in the industry.

Location and Working Pattern

London-based, primarily office-based with regular client meetings, workshops and site visits across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
