Job summary

Turner Lovell is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for HV Plant in the North England region. The role combines design leadership with site surveys and client liaison, supporting complex power infrastructure projects.

You will deliver HV/EHV substation primary plant designs, produce drawings and calculations, and guide projects through concept to detailed design while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and maintaining commercial awareness. Hybrid working with travel is required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven experience delivering HV/EHV substation primary (plant) design projects.
• Strong understanding of substation layouts, plant equipment, and design calculations.
• Ability to work independently on technically complex projects.
• Good commercial awareness and experience working within project constraints.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV/EHV substation primary plant design projects, ensuring delivery to quality, time, and budget requirements.
• Develop and review engineering drawings and documentation, including general arrangements, layouts, and single line diagrams.
• Perform design calculations such as busbar sizing, short‑circuit analysis, cable sizing, and switchroom assessments.
• Prepare and review technical specifications for substation plant and associated equipment.
• Carry out site surveys and provide technical support to site teams.
• Participate in design reviews, hazard assessments, and client meetings.

A leading UK engineering services provider is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer - HV Plant to support the delivery of complex infrastructure projects across the power sector. With a strong pipeline of transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects, they are looking to expand their design team with an experienced engineer.

In this role, you will take the lead on the design, drawings, and calculations for HV/EHV substation primary plant systems. You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team, undertake site surveys, and provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to detailed design.

Key Responsibilities
