Job summary

Headland Archaeology in Manchester seeks a Senior Archaeology & Built Heritage Consultant to lead project work, prepare technical documents such as desk-based assessments and built heritage statements, and support environmental impact statements.

You will apply your understanding of UK planning policy, liaise with clients and statutory consultees, manage projects and subcontractors, and travel to sites across the UK.

Qualifications

• You must have a sound understanding of the policy and legislative context for UK cultural heritage.
• You should relate research themes in British cultural heritage to projects.
• A degree in archaeology or related subject is required.
• Experience in archaeological consultancy or supervisory roles on UK projects is essential.
• Experience of preparing DBAs and/or built heritage statements.
• A full driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles in the UK are required.
• Ability to carry out site visits and walk-over surveys in all weathers.
• Willingness to travel to work on projects across the UK.
• CIfA membership at ACIfA level or IHBC membership is preferred.
• Good health and safety awareness relevant to the role.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and use initiative.
• Commitment to inclusion and diversity.
• Willingness to develop people skills and attend mental health awareness courses.
• MS Office proficiency and good English.
• You should be passionate, motivated and engaged.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects and liaise with clients and stakeholders.

• Input to environmental impact assessments for large projects.
• Identify heritage constraints for complex infrastructure works.
• Support delivery teams and manage sub-contractors.
