Job summary

York And Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Health Care Support Worker for the Emergency Assessment Unit to assist with rapid patient assessment, treatment, and ongoing care for acutely unwell patients.

You will be supported by a Registered Nurse and have access to a comprehensive training academy plus mandatory training to develop clinical skills within a fast-paced NHS environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of Skills for Health Care Certificate (or equivalent).
• Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills.
• Competent to record and elevate patient observations and to be trained in venepuncture, cannulation and catheterisation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high standards of patient care, focusing on individual needs and infection control policies.
• Maintain ward cleanliness and effective communication with patients, relatives and colleagues.
• Work under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and participate in the training programme.

Working within the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) is a rewarding and fast-paced role that supports the assessment, treatment, and ongoing care of acutely unwell medical and frailty patients. EAU focuses on rapid assessment, early intervention, and facilitating timely discharge or admission decisions.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high standards of patient care, focussing on the specific needs of the individual, This will include all aspects of personal care, adherence to Infection Prevention policies, general cleanliness and tidiness on the ward, maintaining effective communication with the patients, their relatives and professional colleagues, You will be directly supervised and supported by a Registered Nurse.

There is a comprehensive training academy when you join the organisation and mandatory training package to support you with developing your clinical skills.
