Job description

The Emergency Department at NNUH is seeking to recruit highly dedicated and passionate individuals to join our team as Health Care Assistants for Mental Health. The NNUH hosts the busiest Emergency Department in the East of England, seeing over 120,000 patients every year.

This role is key in continuing our #JourneytoOutstanding and ensuring that patients are at the heart of everything we do. We’re looking for an individual with excellent communication skills who is capable of providing the highest possible standard of patient care.

You’ll work within a varied Multi-disciplinary Team, playing a vital part in ensuring a safe, timely, and effective patient experience.

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, you will work with all members of the multidisciplinary team to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of patient care.

To support the delivery of a high-quality, safe, and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as role models and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values: People focused, Respect, Dedication, Integrity, and Excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting staff in de-escalating distressing situations.
  2. Providing support and ensuring patient safety, especially for those at risk of self-harm or aggression.
  3. Maintaining clear documentation and communicating observations to the Nursing Team.

This role offers opportunities to work with a diverse multidisciplinary team and to develop with support from peers, the ED Education Team, and the Mental Health Liaison Team. We provide a bespoke induction package and opportunities to work in different areas as part of orientation to understand how the department operates.

Join us at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and be part of a workforce of over 10,000 staff!

The NNUH is one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK, providing first-class acute care for around one million people in Norfolk and surrounding areas. As a teaching and research hospital, we are at the forefront of innovation with state-of-the-art facilities such as the Quadram Institute. We work closely with the University of East Anglia, offering teaching opportunities for staff and placements for students. Our workforce is diverse, representing 94 countries worldwide.

We are a friendly, collaborative hospital working with local services and are home to N&N Hospitals Charity.

We offer a range of NHS benefits and additional perks, including:

  • Flexible working hours
  • Fast Track Staff Physiotherapy Service
  • Multi Faith prayer room at NNUH Colney Lane site
  • Discounted gym memberships
  • Excellent pension scheme and annual leave entitlement
  • Wagestream - access up to 40% of your pay as you earn it
  • Free Park & Ride service to NNUH Colney Lane
  • Free 24-hour confidential counselling support
  • On-site Nursery at NNUH Colney Lane
  • On-site cafes with staff discounts
  • Support in career development
  • Flexible staff bank
  • Salary Sacrifice schemes including lease cars, Cycle to Work, and home electronics
