Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain seeks a Senior Health Care Assistant for Charlton Lane Hospital's inpatient wards, within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust. You will support Chestnut, Mulberry and Willow wards, delivering hands-on care to mental health service users, with a focus on dementia and under supervision.

The role is full-time with rotational shifts. NVQ level 3 and the Care Certificate are required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Job description

A Senior Health Care Assistant post on the inpatient wards at Charlton Lane Hospital, run by Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, covering Chestnut, Mulberry and Willow wards for mental health service users. The work is hands-on care and support, delivered under the code of conduct for healthcare support workers, with direct supervision and regular training. The wards serve older adults with functional or organic mental illness, with a clear focus on dementia, and the post is full time on a rotational shift pattern. Visa sponsorship is not available, and an NVQ level 3 and the Care Certificate are required.

• Significant experience working in a mental health or social care setting
• Significant experience working in a team and independently
• Experience supporting patients living with dementia

Skills & knowledge

• Knowledge of dementia and its impact on the individual
• Knowledge of how dementia affects motivation, social skills, activities, and the individual and their families
• Awareness of the Capacity Act, safeguarding and their role in dementia care

Nice to have

• Over 1 year's experience in a care setting
• Experience providing social and recreational activities
• Over 1 year's experience in a setting or service for people living with dementia
• Experience caring for older people
