Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset is offering a 12-month Senior Clinical Fellow in Hand and Wrist Surgery, supervised by Miss Joanna Higgins and Jeremy Southgate. The fellowship will cover elective and trauma work across Bournemouth, Wimborne and Poole, with occasional time at The Pulvertaft Hand Unit in Derby.

Applicants should have FRCS or equivalent, NHS experience, and proven hand and wrist expertise; duties include clinical care, teaching, audits, and service improvement, with weekend work

Qualifications

• FRCS or equivalent required.
• Experience in hand and wrist surgery and trauma work.
• Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
• Experience of working in the NHS for minimum of 4 months; ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialty service.
• Log book evidence of exposure to hand and wrist surgery; ability to teach and communicate clinical and operative skills.
• Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
• Interest in postgraduate research or service improvement; evidence of audit management.

Responsibilities

• Work across Bournemouth, Wimborne and Poole hospitals on hand and wrist cases (elective and trauma).
• Participate in theatre and outpatient clinics; supervise junior staff.
• Contribute to teaching and postgraduate training programmes and audits.
• Potential time at Pulvertaft Hand Unit, Derby for selected procedures (subject to rotation).
