Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for the Senior Clinical Fellow in Hand and Wrist Surgery. The 12‑month fellowship is supervised by senior colleagues and will commence September 2026.

The role covers hand and wrist surgery across Bournemouth, Wimborne, and Poole sites, with potential time at Derby’s Pulvertaft Hand Unit. Applicants should have FRCS and NHS experience, and be prepared for weekend work.

Qualifications

• Experience in hand & wrist surgery and trauma work.
• Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
• Greater than 2 years orthopaedic registrar level experience with 6 months Hand and Wrist experience.
• Experience of working in the NHS for minimum of 4 months.
• Interest in working towards hand diploma.

Responsibilities

• Work between Bournemouth Hospital, Wimborne Hospital and Poole Hospital on hand and wrist conditions.
• Cover wrist fracture fixation, scaphoid surgery including non-unions, soft tissue hand trauma, arthroplasty and wrist surgery.
• Time at Pulvertaft Hand Unit in Derby up to two weeks every six months for relevant cases.
• Emphasis on training and quality improvement in hand and wrist surgery; includes weekend work.
