Job summary

SSA Recruitment is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead H&S across demolition and construction operations in the North East. You will develop, implement and maintain robust H&S systems, ensuring site teams meet UK legislation and industry best practices.

Working with senior management and site managers, you will conduct audits, investigations and risk assessments, drive toolbox talks and training, and promote a strong safety culture with autonomy and accountability.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate or higher-level Health & Safety qualification.
• Experience in a Health & Safety Manager / Senior H&S Advisor role.
• Strong background in demolition, construction, civil engineering or other high-risk environments.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations.
• Strong understanding of RAMS and safe systems of work.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage with senior management and site teams.
• Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of Health & Safety across multiple operations.
• Full UK driving licence.
• NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 6 / CMIOSH would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Health & Safety across demolition, construction and associated operational activities.
• Provide expert H&S advice and guidance to senior management, site teams and operational staff.
• Develop, implement and continually improve H&S policies, procedures and systems.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Review and approve Risk Assessments, Method Statements and other relevant documentation.
• Lead and support accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
• Monitor and improve subcontractor H&S performance.
• Deliver and support toolbox talks, inductions and H&S training.
• Identify areas of risk and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
• Produce H&S reports, statistics and performance updates for senior management.
• Promote and maintain a strong, positive Health & Safety culture throughout the business.
• Keep up to date with changes in legislation and ensure the business remains compliant.
• Work collaboratively with operational and senior management teams to continually improve H&S performance.
