Job summary

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust seeks a Consultant Geriatrician to join a team of seven geriatricians. The post is a full-time appointment aimed at expanding elderly care, bridging acute frailty pathways with front-end services, and developing pathways for early input into acute illness.

The appointee will work with specialist nurses and a Geriatric Fellow to shape elderly care across South Northamptonshire, with opportunities to influence education, governance and service improvement

Qualifications

• Completion of Speciality Training (CST or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving it in relevant specialty
• MRCP (UK) or an equivalent qualification
• MD, PhD or other higher degree
• Education / Medical Education Qualification (preferably at Masters level)

Responsibilities

• Develop Elderly medicine services with emphasis on front end frailty pathway
• Input into medical student education for undergraduates on emergencies
• Teach and train junior medical staff, post graduate training and nurse training
• Participate in Department of Medicine meetings and Directorate management Board
• Regular audits and review of incidents with the clinical team and implement lessons
• Engage with governance meetings and contribute to incident/complaint learning
• Participate in the on-call medical rota
