Our client has a requirement for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Manchester.
You will deliver innovative and safe geotechnical design solutions across high-impact water and rail infrastructure projects.
Hybrid work arrangement: 3 days in the office, 2 days at home.
Contract position is Outside IR35.
Role Purpose:
- Deliver high-quality geotechnical and civil engineering design solutions within the water and rail sectors.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industry regulations across all design outputs.
- Support the successful execution of projects through expert technical input and leadership.
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed geotechnical and civil engineering design calculations and drawings.
- Prepare site investigation briefs, technical reports, and project specifications.
- Ensure design deliverables meet required safety, quality, and professional standards.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians.
- Conduct and contribute to formal design reviews, including meetings and technical presentations.
- Estimate time and resources for design activities and deliverables.
- Implement and document changes to design packages systematically.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project milestones.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical and/or civil engineering design.
- Strong background in geotechnics, including ground investigation specifications and reports.
- Degree or HND in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proficient in relevant engineering design software and IT tools.
- Registered with a professional engineering body and pursuing chartership.
- Effective communication and presentation skills focused on results, quality, and safety.
- Committed to mentoring, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
Preferred:
- Chartered Engineer status (advantageous but not essential).
- Experience in the water and/or rail sectors.
- Familiarity with construction methodologies, GI techniques, and regulated infrastructure environments.
- Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and multidisciplinary design practices.
- Flexible working arrangements, including options for contract (outside IR35) or staff engagement.
