Job summary

The University of Sheffield's Genomics Facility in Biosciences seeks a Senior Technician to lead complex molecular analyses and support facility users. You will train colleagues, develop novel protocols, and manage daily lab operations, especially in the Lab Manager's absence.

Applicants should have a degree in Biological Science and proven experience in NGS, DNA/RNA work, and data analysis using R and HPC. This is a full-time, on-site, fixed-term role with excellent benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience and understanding of DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR and SNP genotyping.
• Practical experience with next-generation sequencing, library preparation and SNP typing.
• Strong IT skills and familiarity with Linux and R for data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Act as a primary technical expert for complex molecular ecology projects and sequencing applications.
• Deliver and design technical training and support in advanced molecular and genomic techniques to facility users.
• Lead evaluation and implementation of new genomic tools and protocols; develop novel lab methods and publish on Protocols.io.
• Independently perform challenging molecular analyses and data analysis using facility pipelines.
