Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a Support Technician (Research & Facilities) to join a hybrid, full-time team. You will support research laboratories and school facilities, manage instrumentation, samples and data, and help ensure safe, compliant operations across disciplines.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you’ll contribute to plan and run labs, maintain equipment, assist with safety procedures, and support events and training. Competitive benefits apply.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths, or equivalent Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable knowledge, skills and experience in supporting laboratories and associated equipment.
• Good understanding of Chemistry & an interest in Analytical Chemistry.
• Effective communication skills sufficient to liaise with staff and students when required.
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritise competing demands, referring to senior staff when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support duties for Research laboratories and School Facilities in Chemistry.
• Manage analytical instrumentation, calibration, analysis and equipment maintenance.
• Manage samples and data for analytical services following good laboratory practice.
• Carry out laboratory inspections ensuring safe practices and equipment functionality.
• Assist with events, outreach and support for training and staff development.
