Job description

Location: Hexham, hybrid working will be considered.

Hours: Full-time, with some weekend and out of hours working

Reports to: Head of Income Generation

Salary £40,000

We are seeking an experienced commercial manager to take ownership of a strategic role with real influence. You’ll own performance across all fundraising activity and be solely responsible for developing and delivering a strategic plan for high‑value donors and corporate partners.

This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role with clear accountability for fundraising performance. You will own delivery of the fundraising plan to agreed KPIs and be the single point of responsibility for strategy, acquisition, retention and stewardship of major donors and corporate partners. You will lead cross‑functional activity to maximise income, strengthen long‑term relationships and ensure best‑practice governance.

This role presents an opportunity to make a tangible difference to the people and communities that our Hospice serves. As the lead for this income stream, you’ll see the direct impact of your work in improved services and patient care, shape how we engage supporters for years to come, and leave a lasting legacy by growing an essential, sustainable source of funding.

This role is for you if you have:

  • Proven track record of delivering income from high‑value relationships and/or corporate partnerships.
  • Experience owning commercial performance and delivering against KPIs and forecasts.
  • Strong strategic thinker with practical experience in acquisition, stewardship and retention for high‑value relationships.
  • Excellent relationship‑builder, comfortable making and supporting high‑level asks.
  • Solid understanding of fundraising regulation, GDPR and ethical fundraising practices.
  • Strong analytics skills, CRM experience and budget management.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop teams.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own overall fundraising performance: maintain forecasts and deliver income to agreed KPIs across channels.
  • Solely develop and deliver a comprehensive strategy for acquisition, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of high‑value individual donors and corporate partners.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of major gift prospects and corporate opportunities; lead asks and negotiations with CEO/trustees as required.
  • Design personalised stewardship and retention programmes to increase lifetime value and loyalty.
  • Oversee fundraising processes, CRM integrity and data‑driven performance tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations, ethical standards, gift acceptance and due‑diligence processes.
  • Line‑manage and develop fundraising staff; work closely with marketing, finance and programmes to align impact reporting and supporter communications.
  • Report regularly to the Executive Team and Board; provide insight and corrective actions to meet targets.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in a fundraising leadership role (3+ years), transferrable skills from commercial background would also be considered where strong commercial acumen, relationship/account management sales experience and the ability to learn quickly can be demonstrated.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence engaging donors, volunteers and local businesses.
  • Track record of developing and delivering acquisition, retention and stewardship activity.
  • Good project management, organisation and ability to work independently across competing priorities.
  • Experience with CRM systems and data‑led decision‑making.
  • A values‑led approach, excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • A meaningful role where your work directly improves care and support for local people and families in rural Northumberland.
  • Opportunity to lead a strategic post and make a tangible, long‑term impact.
  • Opportunities for professional development and to shape fundraising practice.
  • Local travel to connect with supporters and community partners.
