Job summary

HSBC is hiring two Senior Full Stack Engineers (GCB4) in Sheffield on a hybrid basis (3 days in office). You will build and run modern software using Java 21+, microservices, PostgreSQL, and React, focusing on backend services, API design, and production ownership in a global enterprise setting.

You will ship features across the stack, design service boundaries and API contracts, and deliver secure REST APIs. Docker and Kubernetes experience will be valuable for deployment and scalability.

Qualifications

• Strong modern Java experience (Java 21+ preferred); solid core Java is key.
• Proven backend production experience.
• Hands-on microservices experience with clear service boundaries.
• Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL experience.
• Delivery/operability mindset: CI/CD, high-cadence releases, ownership of NFRs.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship features across the stack: React UI, Java 21+ microservices, and PostgreSQL-backed services.
• Design microservice boundaries, API contracts, and integration patterns.
• Deliver secure, high-performance REST APIs with maintainable code.
• Containerise services with Docker and deploy on Kubernetes; ensure scalability and resilience.
• Uphold engineering practices: clean code, automated tests, trunk-based development, peer reviews, and continuous improvement.
