Job summary

Ryft, a regulated payments facilitator, seeks a Fraud & Risk Manager in Manchester to own and lead the fraud and merchant risk function. You will drive strategy, oversee detection rules, and manage disputes and vendor relationships.

This senior role combines strategic direction with hands-on execution, including building and mentoring the Risk Operations team as volumes grow, ensuring FCA-aligned controls and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Specialist payments fraud background with hands-on experience in fraud detection and prevention for PSPs, acquirers, PayFacs or card schemes.
• Proven experience owning or significantly contributing to fraud rule definition and tuning in a rules-based or ML-assisted platform.
• Strong understanding of TC40/SAFE data, chargeback fraud typologies, and monitoring programmes.

Responsibilities

• Own fraud strategy and define detection approach across the platform; maintain visibility of evolving fraud landscape.
• Lead rule definition, configuration and tuning in the fraud engine; balance fraud reduction with merchant experience.
• Monitor data and reporting; identify patterns and take proactive actions to reduce exposure to chargebacks.
• Conduct in-depth chargeback fraud analysis; identify root causes and patterns requiring intervention.
• Maintain and improve fraud detection playbooks and response frameworks across the team.
• Own merchant risk monitoring and disputes; supervise representment and inform underwriting decisions.
• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new tooling; liaise with banks and scheme contacts.
