Job Description:
Job Title: Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer
Location: Gloucester, UK (with flexible working options)
Salary: Up to £80k
Overview:
A high-performing product development team is seeking a Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer to contribute to the design and delivery of secure, high-speed, cross-domain solutions. This is an opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of product development—from initial concept through to support—in a hands-on engineering environment focused on cutting-edge hardware and firmware technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement firmware using VHDL for high-performance FPGAs (predominantly Altera/Intel).
- Collaborate on full lifecycle development, from architecture to deployment.
- Integrate high-bandwidth FPGA features such as networking, DRAM interfaces, and embedded blocks.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, supporting their development and delivery efforts.
- Contribute to the broader hardware development process including custom PCBs, power systems, and thermal design.
- Strong VHDL programming skills and experience with at least one FPGA toolchain (Intel, Xilinx, Achronix, etc.).
- Experience working with embedded FPGA blocks and high-speed data interfaces.
- Proven track record of delivering secure, high-reliability embedded systems.
- Capability to plan tasks and lead small technical teams.
- Experience designing or developing secure communications or defensive cyber products.
- Understanding of digital hardware design and architecture.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance.
- Must meet residency and nationality requirements due to the sensitive nature of the work.
- On-site presence is required; remote working is not regularly offered, though flexible working arrangements are supported.
What’s Offered:
- 25 days of annual leave, with flexible options to buy, sell, or carry over.
- Comprehensive benefits including private medical and dental insurance, pension scheme, cycle-to-work program, and more.
- A bonus scheme and career development through a dedicated Career Manager.
- A supportive work culture that values inclusivity, professional growth, and well-being.
- Access to various employee support and diversity networks.
