Job summary

MDA Space is seeking an experienced FPGA Engineer to join our UK team, delivering high‑reliability satellite payload designs for space missions. You will work within a multi‑disciplinary engineering group on telecommunications payloads, digital design and IP blocks for space applications.

The role requires extensive hands‑on FPGA experience (10+ years), proficiency with VHDL/SystemVerilog and toolchains (Vivado, Modelsim, Libero).

Qualifications

• 10+ years of FPGA engineering experience in space or high‑reliability sectors.
• Strong understanding of FPGA technology for space.
• Experience with VHDL and SystemVerilog.
• Familiar with FPGA design tools: Vivado, Modelsim, Libero.
• Knowledge of digital communications and DSP.
• Experience leading complex FPGA projects.
• Desirable: high reliability design / space payloads / signal integrity analysis.

Responsibilities

• Working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers developing satellite telecommunication payloads for a variety of orbits and missions
• Flow down of sub‑system requirements to the FPGAs
• FPGA verification for high reliability / space systems
• Architecture, design and implementation of complex designs with Microchip FPGAs for space applications
• Development of IP blocks for AMD SoCs

Responsibilities

• Working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers developing satellite telecommunication payloads for a variety of orbits and missions
• Flow down of sub‑system requirements to the FPGAs
• FPGA verification for high reliability / space systems
• Architecture, design and implementation of complex designs with Microchip FPGAs for space applications
• Development of IP blocks for AMD SoCs

Required Skills And Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in an FPGA engineering role, in the space or an equivalent high reliability sector
• Good understanding of FPGA technology for space
• Experience with VHDL and System Verilog
• Experience with FPGA design tools including Vivado, Modelsim and Libero
• Understanding of digital communications and DSP
• Leading complex FPGA projects
• Specialist knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
• High reliability design and analysis (Space, Military, Automotive, etc)
• Knowledge of LEO/GEO communications payloads
• Signal integrity analysis
