Job summary

Kpler is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer to join the Mobile Experience squad in Annan Water, Scotland, United Kingdom. You will deliver high‑performance features for the MarineTraffic and Kpler mobile apps using Flutter, Dart and Mapbox.

You will also help design the mobile Backend-for-Frontend (Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, PostgreSQL/PostGIS), mentor peers, and contribute to AI-assisted engineering while collaborating with PMs and designers.

Qualifications

At least 5 years working experience.
Experience shipping consumer mobile apps at scale (B2C) for over a million users.
Solid hands-on experience shipping complex Flutter & Dart applications in production.
Solid experience with Node.js/TypeScript and GraphQL API design for services operating at scale.
Excellent knowledge of mobile architecture, performance, testing and observability, with a strong Clean Code and Clean Architecture culture.
Strong understanding of Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines and the ability to translate them into polished, accessible user experiences.
Product judgement: experience contributing to product and UX decisions with PMs and designers, rather than simply implementing specifications.
Professional‑level English (written and spoken).
Experience in a platform engineering or inner‑source context; GraphQL federation.
Geospatial experience (Mapbox, PostGIS) or exposure to Kafka, Airflow, GeoServer.

Responsibilities

Develop production-ready features for the MarineTraffic and Kpler apps, upholding Clean Architecture standards and translating platform conventions (Apple HIG, Material) into polished, native‑feeling, accessible experiences.
Design and evolve the mobile BFF (Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, PostgreSQL/PostGIS) as a primary, scalable component serving all mobile needs.
Act as a quality guardian: code reviews, automated test suites (unit, integration, contract), observability, and continuously improved CI/CD and engineering practices.
Contribute to product and UX decisions alongside the PM and Designer — owning outcomes, not just code.
Maintain and optimise the AI/LLM tooling stack (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) so agents write code autonomously to the team’s standards.
Mentor peers, contribute to the Front‑end Chapter, and support business teams’ autonomy over their functional scopes as part of the crew’s platformisation strategy.
