Job summary

Intros in Southampton is seeking a Senior/Principal firmware engineer to design and develop firmware in VHDL/Verilog for complex aerospace/defence systems. You will collaborate with Systems, Hardware and Software teams to deliver robust firmware across the product lifecycle.

You will use Mentor Graphics tools (HDL Designer, ModelSim/Questa, Precision), work with Xilinx/Intel devices, and contribute to DO-254 DAL A/B processes. Excellent communication and Linux scripting skills are essential.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years experience developing firmware using VHDL or Verilog.
• Mentor Graphics HDL Designer, ModelSim/Questa, Precision experience.
• Familiar with Xilinx/Intel (Altera)/Microsemi (Actel) ISE design flow and third-party tools.
• Ability to derive detailed firmware requirements from system/hardware needs.
• Debug firmware designs and support integration & verification at hardware and system level.
• Strong firmware version control experience.
• Coordinate day-to-day technical activities with project leads & other disciplines.
• Excellent communication skills (oral & written).
• Linux and scripting experience.
• Experience writing technical reports/documentation.
• Develop real-time embedded, safety-critical firmware (DO-254 DAL A/B).
• Firmware requirements capture & tools.
• Experience in Aerospace/Defence industry.
• Embedded processors cores (e.g. ARM) in FPGA designs.
• Independent verification using VHDL or SystemVerilog / UVM.
• Familiar with latest FPGA device families.
• Experience with High-Speed Serial protocols.
