Job summary

Solid Talent in Reading, United Kingdom is hiring a Senior Fire Protection Design Engineer to lead technical design of active fire protection systems, including 3D BIM modelling and hydraulic calculations. The role supports hybrid/remote working from Reading within a portfolio of critical infrastructure projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, review technical submissions, and ensure compliance with BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 7671, and NFPA standards.

Qualifications

Experience using Autodesk Revit and 2D AutoCAD for 3D/BIM fire protection designs.
Proven track record in designing water-based suppression systems and performing hydraulic calculations.
Relevant UK Building Services/Fire engineering qualification (HNC/HND or degree).
Knowledge of fire detection/alarm, emergency lighting, and gaseous suppression standards is desirable.

Responsibilities

Lead all technical design activities for active fire protection systems.
Produce detailed designs and submissions compliant with BS and NFPA standards.
Create, review, and issue as-built drawings and O&M manuals; prepare build budgets.
Collaborate with sales, estimators, and delivery teams for tender input.
Mentor junior engineers and drive CAD/BIM process improvements.
Provide specialist engineering input during delivery, installation, and commissioning phases.
