Fire Safety Design Engineer

We are looking for a Fire Engineer to provide Design and Project Coordination support to a specialist design team.

Join our growing Fire Safety division, part of our well-established Health & Safety Consultancy. You’ll work with a variety of clients across all RIBA stages, collaborating closely with our Fire Safety, PD/BR and PD/CDM specialists. With over 20 years in the safety management and advisory sector, we take pride in delivering exceptional service and quality. We focus on giving practical, proactive, and solutions‑oriented advice that helps clients meet regulatory requirements and follow best practice.

A Fire Engineer on our team will provide design and coordination support and fire engineering risk advice to clients and internal professionals across all RIBA work stages, from education and retail to commercial, industrial and social housing.

Key responsibilities include producing fire engineering designs and risk advice for building and engineering projects, supporting contractor compliance through site checking, and preparing reports that meet UK fire safety regulations, including the Building Safety Act.

We seek a candidate with a mixed project background, capable of peer reviewing and producing designs and fire strategy reports. Knowledge of CFD and CEM modelling, as well as a fire engineering degree or equivalent, is required; candidates should be working towards or willing to achieve Chartered Engineer status through the IFE.

Key Experience & Responsibilities
  • Preparing client fee proposals and quotations
  • Providing detailed technical advice on fire safety for a range of building types, with a particular focus on high‑rise residential developments
  • Participating in client and design team meetings
  • Supporting compliance with Building Regulations (e.g. Approved Document B) and fire safety legislation
  • Advising on duties under the Building Safety Act
  • Understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order
  • Reviewing technical documentation (plans, sections, elevations, design details, etc.)
  • Knowledge of British Standards such as BS 9991 and BS 9999
  • Exposure to or understanding of CFD modelling
  • Prior experience in a fire consultancy or multidisciplinary environment
Qualifications & Professional Memberships
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Fire Engineering or a related discipline (desirable)
  • Membership or working towards membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or similar body
