Senior Financial Crime Supervisor

Department- Specialist Directorate and Department

Division– Financial Crime Market Intervention (FCMI)

Salary – National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £52,400 to £65,500 and London £57,700 to £72,000 pro rata (salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

The Financial Crime Market Intervention Department provides the dedicated specialist resource and expertise to help the FCA meet its financial crime responsibilities, as contained in the FCA’s wider objective on integrity and in its specific freestanding duty on financial crime.

The department is comprised of four Financial Crime Specialist Supervision teams, a Sanctions Supervisory Team, a Risk, Data & Strategy Team (RDS) and a Financial Crime Public Commitments Strategy & Delivery Team. Working together with others inside and outside the FCA, we deal with issues involving money laundering, financial sanctions and bribery and corruption.

The Financial Crime Market Interventions department does not cover market abuse or fraud

What will you be doing?

  • Manage your own case load, overseeing proactive supervisory assessment programmes, a portfolio of reactive casework and relationship-manage major firms

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, keeping them informed and involved as appropriate

  • Manage intricate regulatory matters, Facilitate and chair meetings and supervise compliance visits

  • Oversee regulatory work through evaluations, visits and interventions of regulated firms

  • Work closely with front-line supervision to ensure compliance with relevant rules, laws, and guidance

  • Ensure the goals of the Financial Crime Market Intervention Department are met through your activities

Which skills are required?

Minimum

  • Prior experience in financial crime, gained through roles in supervision, compliance, or financial crime functions within a regulatory body, law enforcement agency, government department, financial institution, or consultancy

  • Prior experience in working with complex cases, drawing on your technical expertise

Essential

  • Good understanding of the FCA’s regulatory and legal frameworks, alongside a clear awareness of the structure of the financial services industry—covering key products, services, and processes that influence financial crime risk

  • Skilled in carrying out complex assessments of firms’ systems and controls, including participating in or supporting onsite visits and thoughtfully selecting regulatory tools to help ensure compliance

  • Able to assess and interpret a wide range of data and information with agility, enabling responsive and effective actions to help mitigate risk

  • Experienced in working constructively with a diverse group of stakeholders, offering supportive challenge and fostering solutions that are mutually beneficial

  • Clear and confident communicator in writing, with the ability to explain complex issues in an accessible way. Comfortable drafting detailed reports and offering helpful feedback to peers

  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and workstreams effectively, often under time pressure, while maintaining focus and delivering with minimal oversight

  • Partnering team member with a positive, inclusive approach, who supports others, motivates colleagues, and contributes to team learning through mentoring and coaching
