The Role

The role is based in Norton Rose Fulbright's Newcastle office and suits a qualified accountant who has experience with intercompany accounting across a multinational group and enjoys project-based work.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, and part of a service-driven team with 5 other financial accountants, the role will be responsible for the successful delivery of an intercompany reconciliation and data cleanse project across EMEA's 18 offices. There are also opportunities to participate in other projects.

The intercompany and interoffice balances have accumulated over years, with no formal process for settling intercompany balances. Design work has been completed to understand the issues and identify solutions for addressing both historical balances and future processes. This role is critical for implementing changes to manage tax risks associated with large intercompany balances and to tidy up current balances before a new finance system is implemented.

Key Responsibilities

• Reconciling intercompany balances across all EMEA offices
• Analyzing, managing, and resolving intercompany mismatches
• Posting journals to reconcile and clear intercompany balances
• Developing a reporting structure to track and report progress
• Settling intercompany balances through physical cash transfers or via the internal bank
• Implementing NRF EMEA's new approach for intercompany accounting, addressing arising issues

Additional opportunities may exist to contribute to other projects within Norton Rose Fulbright.

In executing these activities, you are expected to:

• Work as part of the Newcastle-based Financial Accounting team and develop effective relationships with the wider UK finance community.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with accounting teams in non-UK offices for efficient reconciliation.

Skills and Experience Required

The candidate should:

• Enjoy working independently and take full ownership of deliverables
• Be self-motivated, disciplined, and passionate about meeting deadlines and process improvements
• Possess excellent communication and influencing skills
• Be a good problem solver, methodical, with a keen eye for detail
• Handle large amounts of data comfortably

Experience required includes:

• Qualified accountant with experience in intercompany processes within a global organization (essential)
• SAP R3 system knowledge (desirable)
• Strong Excel skills (essential)
• Proven track record of managing projects, effectively managing time, and meeting deadlines (preferred)
• Planning and project management skills (preferred)
• Experience working within a large, process-driven business (preferred)
