Job overview

The Senior Financial Accountant role offers diverse responsibilities, primarily focusing on reporting capital financial performance, as well as involvement in the financial management and reporting of losses and revenue. The role supports the Financial Accounting Manager in maintaining a robust financial reporting system within the UHB. Responsibilities include interpreting accounting standards, providing financial advice, leading the production of statutory annual accounts, and ensuring timely completion of monthly Welsh Government financial returns. The post also involves working with the Regional Monitoring Officer to address information requests and helping the UHB meet its statutory financial targets. Additionally, the role includes providing technical input into financial proformas, business cases, and financial planning processes.

Main duties of the job

  • Advise on financial performance, accounting standards, and controls within the UHB, communicating sensitive information appropriately.
  • Coordinate and complete the Annual Accounts and monthly financial monitoring returns promptly.
  • Lead the planning and production of the UHB's Annual Accounts, ensuring departmental compliance.
  • Interpret existing accounting policies and liaise with external auditors to ensure standards are met.
  • Assist in negotiating and implementing changes in accounting standards and NHS financial policies.
  • Design and produce financial reports to facilitate the UHB's reporting requirements and support financial planning and business case development.

  • CCAB professionally qualified
  • Significant NHS, public, or private sector finance experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel skills

  • NHS experience
  • Experience with Oracle or other general ledger systems
  • Ability to work flexibly
