Finance Assurance Consultant | Peterborough, Cambridgeshire | £30 ph Inside IR35 | 3 months initially

Location: Peterborough
Salary: £44 per hour
Contract Type: 3 months initially
Travel Requirement: UK-wide and occasional international travel

My client is a leading professional services firm supporting high-profile public and private sector infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. Their Commercial Assurance team plays a vital role in helping clients make informed financial decisions by delivering robust, insightful cost and commercial assurance services.

About the Role
As a Senior Finance Assurance Consultant, you'll deliver end-to-end commercial assurance services across complex infrastructure projects. Working closely with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders, you'll provide detailed cost analysis, governance reviews, and financial insight that drive strategic decision-making.

You will lead key commissions, evaluate cost data and commercial processes, and present your findings clearly to clients. With a combination of forensic attention to detail and the ability to understand and explain the bigger picture, you'll bring clarity, rigour and value to every engagement.

This is a hybrid role based out of Peterborough. Travel to client sites across the UK (and occasionally overseas) will be required.

The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in SAP and have experience within water sector/industry and have a confident, collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver commercial assurance and cost verification services across major infrastructure projects
• Analyse and interpret high volumes of cost and financial data from various systems (including SAP)
• Evaluate cost structures and compare them to contractual frameworks (e.g. NEC3, NEC4)
• Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities in commercial processes
• Conduct payroll audits, data sampling, and cost substantiation reviews
• Prepare and present clear, insightful client-facing reports
• Lead meetings and presentations with senior client stakeholders and supply chain partners
• Mentor and support junior colleagues across multiple engagements
• Contribute to client relationship development and the identification of new business opportunities

What We're Looking For

• Proficiency in SAP, including creating POs, GRNs, setting up projects, and budget maintenance
• Strong Excel skills - confident in handling data via pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data consolidation
• Experience within the Water industry/Sector
• Strong experience delivering cost/commercial assurance or financial audit services
• Good working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, particularly ECC and PSC
• Skilled in working with large datasets in Excel and finance systems (e.g. SAP)
• Ability to extract, analyse and interpret data to provide meaningful insights
• Confident communicator with excellent presentation and stakeholder management skills
• Comfortable working autonomously and adapting to changing client needs
• Experience working within client-side organisations or through secondments (desirable)
• Degree qualified in a relevant discipline
• Professional qualifications (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, RICS) are an advantage
• Eligible or able to obtain security clearance (desired)

Location: Peterborough - Must be able to travel to the Peterborough office up to 3 times per week

Pay rate: £44 per hour (Inside IR35
