Finance Assurance Consultant | Peterborough, Cambridgeshire | £30 ph Inside IR35 | 3 months initially

My client is a leading professional services firm supporting high-profile public and private sector infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. Their Commercial Assurance team plays a vital role in helping clients make informed financial decisions by delivering robust, insightful cost and commercial assurance services.

About the Role
As a Finance Assurance Consultant, you'll support commercial assurance services across complex infrastructure projects. Working closely with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders, you'll support detailed cost analysis, governance reviews, and financial insight that drive strategic decision-making.

You will support key commissions, evaluate cost data and commercial processes, and present your findings clearly to clients. With a combination of forensic attention to detail and the ability to understand and explain the bigger picture, you'll bring clarity, rigour and value to every engagement.

This is a hybrid based in Peterborough. Travel to client sites across the UK may be required.

The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in SAP (including raising purchase orders, goods receipt notes, and project creation), advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs), and have a confident, collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use SAP to raise POs, process GRNs, maintain budgets, and support project creation and forecasting
  • Collate, clean and analyse large datasets in Excel using pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and other advanced functions
  • Produce and present detailed finance and commercial reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support monthly forecasting and budget reviews, providing variance analysis and insights
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, finance, procurement, and wider operational teams
  • Contribute to commercial reviews, process improvements, and assurance audits
  • Assist in the delivery of close-out reports and recommendations to clients
  • Lead and support stakeholder meetings, tailoring financial information for different audiences
  • Mentor and support junior team members where required
What We're Looking For
  • Proficiency in SAP, including creating POs, GRNs, setting up projects, and budget maintenance
  • Strong Excel skills - confident in handling data via pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data consolidation
  • Experience within the Water industry/Sector
  • Excellent stakeholder management - able to build relationships and confidently present findings
  • Experience working on infrastructure, capital projects, or within a cost assurance/commercial finance function
  • Strong analytical thinking and a proactive approach to identifying issues and driving improvements
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Location: Peterborough - Must be able to travel to the Peterborough office up to 3 times per week

Pay rate: £30 per hour (Inside IR35
