Dumfries and Galloway Council is seeking a Senior Family Support Worker to join their Children and Families Team. This fixed-term position involves working directly with children and families, assisting social workers, and supporting service users. Ideal candidates will have experience in child support, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to build effective relationships. Senior Family Support Worker (16/1149) (Fixed Term)
This post provides an opportunity to work with children, young people and their families in a variety of settings. You will be part of a busy team based in the East of the region. You will also work directly with service users and with workers in other agencies.
Work within the Children and Families Team centres around supporting children and their families. A key role will be assisting social workers with the assessment process, accompanying them on visits and providing support to colleagues and to families.
You must have direct experience of working with children and young people and be able to form effective relationships with children and their families. Good problem solving skills and the ability to undertake assessments and keep accurate records are essential. Knowledge of existing Council Information systems (Mosaic) would be an advantage. You will be energetic and flexible, able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and able to use your initiative and experience (ideally in a related work-setting) to help provide an effective service.
Induction training will be provided and there will be regular support, supervision and team meetings.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
This post is fixed term until March 2027.
