Job summary

Imperial College London, Business School, seeks a Senior Facilities Operations and Safety Manager to lead day-to-day facilities, services and health and safety across its South Kensington and White City campuses. You will shape operating models for spaces, manage a facilities team and ensure value-for-money services for staff, students and visitors.

  • Degree level education or equivalent, or substantial relevant facilities management experience.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification, ideally IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Experience in line management including recruiting, motivating, developing and coaching staff.
  • Experience of operational planning and delivery, financial management, and procuring/managing contractors and suppliers.
  • Experience of managing health and safety in a complex environment.
  • Strong customer-service focus and ability to deliver high-quality, value-for-money facilities and soft services.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills across organisational boundaries.
  • Ability to prioritise a demanding workload, adapt to change and make sound decisions in a complex environment.
  • Experience of project management, designing/delivering new spaces, process improvement; HE experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of facilities, services and operational arrangements across multiple locations.
  • Develop operating models, policies, processes and communications for new, refurbished, expanded, leased and shared spaces.
  • Lead health and safety governance, risk assessments, inspections, incident follow-up, audits, briefings and staff training.
  • Manage, motivate and develop the Facilities Operations Manager and wider facilities team, setting priorities and supporting high-quality delivery.
  • Build productive relationships with Imperial teams, building managers, contractors, suppliers and external venue partners.
  • Manage procurement and budgets, negotiate with suppliers and ensure services deliver value for money.
  • Use insight and feedback to improve processes, customer service and the experience of staff, students and visitors.

About the role

Are you an experienced facilities and safety professional ready to lead complex operations across a busy, multi-site environment? As Senior Facilities Operations and Safety Manager at Imperial Business School, you will have overall accountability of the day-to-day delivery and continuous improvement of facilities, services and health and safety arrangements for our staff, students and visitors. You will shape effective operating models for new and changing spaces while ensuring consistently high standards, value for money and an excellent customer experience.

What you would be doing

You will take ownership of facilities operations and health and safety across the Business School's spaces at South Kensington, White City and other leased or shared locations. Working closely with the Director of Faculty Services and a wide range of internal and external partners, you will:

  • lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of facilities, services and operational arrangements across multiple locations
  • develop operating models, policies, processes and communications for new, refurbished, expanded, leased and shared spaces
  • lead health and safety governance, risk assessment, inspections, incident and near-miss follow-up, audits, briefings and staff training
  • manage, motivate and develop the Facilities Operations Manager and wider facilities team, setting priorities and supporting high-quality delivery
  • build productive relationships with Imperial teams, building managers, contractors, suppliers and external venue partners
  • manage procurement and budgets, negotiate with suppliers and ensure services deliver quality and value for money
  • use insight and feedback to improve processes, customer service and the experience of staff, students and visitors
What we are looking for

You will bring a strong record of operational leadership and a practical, collaborative approach. In particular, you will have:

  • Degree level education or equivalent, or substantial relevant facilities management experience
  • a NEBOSH or IOSH qualification, ideally IOSH Managing Safely
  • experience of line management, including recruiting, motivating, developing and coaching staff
  • experience of operational planning and delivery, financial management, and procuring and managing contractors and suppliers
  • experience of managing health and safety in a complex environment
  • a strong customer-service focus and the ability to deliver high-quality, value-for-money facilities and soft services
  • excellent communication and influencing skills, with confidence working across organisational boundaries
  • the ability to prioritise a demanding workload, adapt to change and make sound decisions in a complex environment
  • Experience of project management, designing and delivering new spaces and facilities, process improvement, and working in higher education would be advantageous.
