Job Overview

Brentford FC has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Social Media Executive to join our content team. We are looking for an experienced, strategic and creative individual to lead the planning, creation and delivery of content across our social channels, ensuring we stay ahead of trends and support all areas of the club.


The successful candidate will have significant experience in football social media, ideally gained within the Premier League or a comparable top-flight league, and will bring strong editorial judgement, platform-specific expertise and excellent editing skills to the role. This is a position in which the candidate can have substantial impact on the content strategy, by creating outstanding content themselves and guiding the wider team’s output.


Key Responsibilities


  • Create original and creative long and short form content across all digital platforms.


  • Be on top and ahead of social media trends, tailoring content and copy to the specific format, audience and best practice of each channel.


  • Collaborate with other content creators within the team, contributing ideas and supporting a joined-up approach to storytelling.


  • Develop formats that showcase player personality and give fans a closer connection to the squad.


  • Own the day-to-day social media posting schedule, ensuring content is optimised for each platform’s algorithm, audience behaviour and technical specifications.


  • Edit and produce high-quality video and static content using Adobe Creative Suite (or similar), ensuring a consistently high standard across all channels.


  • Produce and self-shoot content for all Club channels, including matchday and non-matchday and partner content.


  • Work alongside and collaboratively with other departments at the football club to deliver campaigns.


  • Provide guidance, feedback and quality control on content produced by junior members of the content team


  • Contribute to and help shape the Club’s social media strategy and tone of voice



Knowledge


  • Significant professional experience in football social media, ideally within the Premier League or another comparable top-flight environment, with a strong understanding of the football media landscape and fan audiences.


  • Comprehensive knowledge of social media platforms, including their audiences, algorithms, content formats, technical specifications, trends and evolving best practice.


  • Strong editorial knowledge and understanding of brand tone of voice, storytelling and the sensitivities involved in creating content around players, matches, partners and the wider football club.



Specialist Skills


  • Advanced ability to create, shoot and edit high-quality video and static content across both short- and long-form formats, using Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent tools.


  • Highly developed platform-specific content skills, including writing engaging copy, adapting creative for different channels and optimising content for audience behaviour and algorithms.


  • Strong content planning and production skills, with the ability to manage the day-to-day social publishing schedule while delivering matchday, non-matchday and partner content to a consistently high standard.



People Skills


  • Builds effective collaborative relationships with content creators and colleagues across the Club, working closely with football, commercial, communications, marketing and other departments to deliver joined-up campaigns.


  • Provides constructive guidance, feedback and quality control to junior members of the content team, helping to develop their skills and improve the overall quality of output.


  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, with the confidence to share ideas, challenge constructively and build positive relationships with players and other key stakeholders

  • Represents and contributes to the Club’s public-facing social media presence, with content directly influencing how Brentford FC is perceived by supporters, players, partners and the wider football community.


  • Has the ability to create distinctive, engaging content that increases the Club’s visibility, strengthens fan connection and contributes to its reputation across digital and social platforms.


  • Maintains awareness of wider football and social media trends, helping ensure the Club remains competitive and relevant within the Premier League’s highly visible digital environment.

  • Works with a high degree of autonomy in managing the day-to-day social media schedule, making informed decisions on content, timing, format, copy and platform optimisation.


  • Uses strong editorial judgement to determine appropriate content and messaging, particularly in fast-moving matchday and football environments where decisions may need to be made quickly.


  • Makes recommendations and takes ownership of decisions within their area of expertise, while recognising when issues require escalation or alignment with senior colleagues and relevant Club departments.



Innovation


  • Proactively identifies emerging social media trends, formats, technologies and audience behaviours, translating these into opportunities for the Club’s content strategy.


  • Develops and tests new creative formats and storytelling approaches, particularly those that showcase player personality and create deeper connections between the squad and supporters.


  • Contributes significantly to the evolution of the Club’s social media strategy and tone of voice, using insight, creativity and experimentation to improve the quality, relevance and impact of content.
