Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Senior Equipment Operator to run heavy equipment in a 24/7 field operations setting. You will dig trenches, repair pipelines, and respond to emergencies, operating backhoes, cranes, and other machinery to keep water/wastewater infrastructure running smoothly.

Qualified applicants have a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years of heavy equipment experience, a Texas CDL Class A, and the ability to obtain a water license within 12 months.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years operating backhoes, skid steers, front-end loaders or excavators.
• Must pass a hands-on heavy equipment test during the interview.
• Valid Texas Class A CDL with clean driving record.
• Ability to obtain a TCEQ Class D Water/Wastewater license within 12 months.
• Must pass drug screen, physical and background check.
• Lift up to 100 pounds and work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate cranes, bulldozers, backhoes, dump trucks and excavators.
• Install, maintain and repair water and wastewater pipelines.
• Operate valves to isolate leaks or shut off service.
• Assist in constructing and repairing mains, hydrants and taps.
• Locate and uncover buried pipelines; cut and measure pipe.
• Clear obstructions in collection and distribution systems.
• Set up job sites with traffic controls (cones, signs, barriers).
• Perform pre- and post-operation inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Collaborate with crew to maintain safe working conditions.
• Complete tasks efficiently and safely as part of a 24/7 field ops team.
