Job summary

Plessey in Plymouth is seeking a hands-on Principal Epitaxy Engineer to drive III‑AsP epitaxy development and high‑volume manufacturing readiness using MOCVD.

You will work with device, integration and manufacturing teams, mentor engineers, and contribute to process control, tech roadmaps and IP. The role combines deep technical expertise with hands-on leadership in a fab and lab environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive, proven III‑AsP epitaxy experience by MOCVD for photonic devices.
• Experience taking epitaxial R&D processes into manufacturing.
• Hands-on MOCVD reactor experience and related tools.
• Able to translate device requirements into epitaxial structures.
• Strong DOE, data analysis and epitaxial characterization skills.
• Proactive, independent and takes ownership of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise III‑AsP epitaxial growth processes using MOCVD.
• Plan and run DOE to optimise growth parameters.
• Define robust MOCVD process windows for stable growth.
• Provide hands‑on reactor support and troubleshooting.
• Mentor engineers and share best practices.
• Collaborate with device, integration and manufacturing teams.
