Job summary

Blue Arrow is seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to support the Consultancy Division with commercially aware, technically proficient environmental risk reduction services. The role is home-based with travel to offices and sites, reporting to a Principal Consultant or Regional Manager, and carries responsibility for technical and financial performance on assigned projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in earth sciences or geo-environmental discipline, ideally with a professional membership
• MSc in a relevant subject is beneficial but not essential
• Experience managing environmental incidents, contaminated land surveys, and site investigations with drilling techniques
• Knowledge of remediation technologies for contaminated soil and groundwater; familiarity with CLR11, BS10175; logging to BS5930; development of CSMs

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise project management of environmental insurance claims and commercial spill projects
• Liaise with clients, regulators, contractors and homeowners
• Undertake site investigations to determine extent and assess environmental risks
• Log soils during investigations to a high standard per best practice
• Prepare health, safety and environmental documentation including risk assessments, method statements and incident reporting
• Manage and plan site investigations, monitoring, remedial and validation works
• Schedule and interpret field and laboratory data
• Produce interpretive environmental reports including CSMs and PRA/GQRA
• Support design, implementation and verification of environmental remediation works
• Demonstrate commitment to safety, technical robustness, commercial awareness, and customer satisfaction
• Write high-quality, commercially focused reports

Role: Senior Environmental Consultant

Job Description

The Senior Environmental Consultant will support the Consultancy Division in providing customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders with commercially aware, technically proficient, and professional environmental risk reduction services. The post holder will utilise their technical knowledge of contaminated land consultancy, to carry out environmental investigation, assessment, reporting, remediation verification and 'cradle to grave' project management of environmental insurance claims. The role will be home based with travel to other offices and sites required, and with close supervision / mentoring by a Principal Consultant and / or the Regional Manager. In addition, and due to the seniority of the post, the postholder will hold responsibility for the technical and financial performance of any project on which they are deployed.

Responsibilities of the role include:

• Leading and supervising project management of environmental insurance claims and commercial spill projects
• Liaison with all stakeholders including clients, regulators, contractors and homeowners
• Undertaking site investigations to determine the extent and severity of impact and assessing environmental risks
• Logging of soils during investigations to a high standard and in accordance with best practice
• Preparing health, safety and environmental documentation including risk assessments and method statements along with reporting of H&S near misses and positive observations
• Management and planning of site investigations, monitoring, remedial and validation works
• Scheduling and interpretation of field and laboratory data
• Production of interpretive environmental reports including conceptual site models (CSM) and preliminary (PRA) and generic quantitative risk assessments (GQRA)
• Undertaking and supporting the design, implementation and verification of environmental remediation works
• Demonstrating a commitment to ensuring consistently high levels of safety, technical robustness, commercial awareness, organisation and customer satisfaction
• Writing high standard reports which are technically sound and commercially focused.

Qualifications

• A degree in a relevant earth sciences, or geo-environmental discipline and, ideally, be a member of a relevant professional organisation
• An MSc in a relevant subject (beneficial but not essential)
• Experience in managing environmental incidents, carrying out contaminated land surveys and site investigations, with knowledge of available drilling techniques
• Possess knowledge of remediation technologies for contaminated soil and groundwater, i.e. have experience of operating on contaminated land projects where there is petroleum hydrocarbon contamination, a working knowledge of CLR11 and BS10175, be proficient in logging soil and rock in accordance with BS5930 and have strong skills in the development and updating of CSMs
