Job summary

J Murphy & Sons is actively seeking an Engineering Manager for HV Cables to lead all design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning activities for EHV projects. You will ensure compliance with IEC/British Standards and provide technical leadership to site teams and suppliers.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status (or progression), 10+ years in EHV/HV cable systems, and strong experience in technical procurement, risk, and NCR/lesson-learned processes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Power Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status with IET or IMechE preferred.
• 10+ years in EHV/HV cable system design, installation and commissioning.
• Experience in technical procurement and supplier management for HV cables.
• Knowledge of IEC, British Standards and National Grid specs.
• Proven track record leading engineering teams and projects.
• Experience with CYMCAP or similar cable rating software; onshore/offshore exposure.
• Familiarity with digital engineering and GIS for cable projects is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Review EHV cable system designs (400kV/275kV/132kV) across design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Lead technical delivery and assurance per IEC/BS standards and client specs.
• Provide leadership for site teams, RAMS/ITP reviews, QA/QC documentation.
• Coordinate HV testing, FAT, and supplier engagements for type testing and registrations.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing across the team.
