Job summary

Vocative Consulting Ltd in Surrey is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Platform and Applications to lead a legacy engineering team and establish a DevOps function. The role combines development and operations, with a focus on scaling the core product and migrating to a modern cloud stack.

You will manage both an Opsto team of 5-6 and an Engineering team of 3-4, overseeing incident management, deployments, and BAU activities, and working with the CTO on cloud migration.

• Experience leading legacy-to-cloud migrations.
• Proven DevOps leadership and team management.
• Experience with Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS, and .NET.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a combined DevOps function and development team.
• Manage both development and operations teams to support the core product.
• Oversee incident management and operational support for production
• Plan and execute the migration to a modern cloud stack and refactor the product.
• Collaborate with the CTO and technical teams on product segmentation and cloud adoption.

Anexcellentopportunitytobeattheheartofasignificanttransformationwithinalegacyengineeringteam;creatingaDevOpsfunctionandthenleadingtheteamthroughthetransitionandmigrationtoamodernstack.

TakingresponsibilityforbothanOpsteam(of5-6)andanEngineeringteam(3-4),you'llinitiallybuildthemintoacombinedDevOpsfunctiontomanagetheongoingdevelopmentandmaintenanceofthebusiness'scoreproduct.

You'llneedexperienceleadingbothdevelopmentandoperationsenvironments;owningincidentmanagementandsupportaswellasengineeringanddeploymentpractices.

BuiltonWindowsServer,SQLServer,IISand.net/webapplicationstacks,theproductisthesourceofthebulkofthecompany'srevenueandismissioncritical.

InadditiontotheBAUworkofestablishingacombinedDevOpsfunctionandmanagingtheongoingproductdevelopment,youwillberesponsible(inconjunctionwiththeCTOandothertechnicalteams)forstartingtobreakuptheproductandmigrateittoamoderncloudstack,alongsidetheothercompanyproducts.

Thiswillinvolvetheabilitytomanagesignificantchange;boththeteamintegration,andthenmigratingservicesfromlegacytocloudplatforms,retrainingdevelopersandsysops,andovertimemigratingtheentireproductawayfromthecurrentenvironment.ThelongtermaimforthisroleistoownthecoreproductandDevOpsteaminthenew,modernenvironment.

Ifyou'reanexperiencedmanagercurrentlyinalegacyenvironment,thisisachancetomakethemoveintoamoderncloudstack,takingyourteamandtheproductwithyou.
