Job summary

West Lothian Council is seeking an experienced professional to lead the Roads Operations Service. You will report to the Roads Operations Manager and be responsible for day-to-day depot management, cyclic maintenance, minor civil works and major projects.

The role requires managing a diverse team of roads operatives and supervisors, making senior decisions on winter maintenance and emergency service, and preparing the winter service policy and annual plan.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with the Engineering Council at least to Incorporated Engineer level.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution (or working toward) is required.

Working as a key member of the Roads and Transportation Service you will assist the Roads Operations Manager deliver one of the key functions of the service.

Working directly to the Roads Operations Manager you will ensure delivery of effective service provision and communication whilst promoting positive team working.

You will be required to take a lead role:

• in the leadership of the Roads Operations Service with specific responsibilities for the day to day management and operations of the roads depot and staff. This covers the key functions of depot management, cyclic maintenance, minor civil works and major projects.
• manage and support a diverse, multi-skilled, multi-tasked team comprising of roads operatives, supervisory and support staff.
• as a senior decision maker, in all aspects of Roads winter maintenance and emergency service, to include the preparation of the winter service policy and annual winter management plan.

You must be registered with the Engineering Council to at least Incorporated Engineer level and a member of a relevant professional institution (or working toward).
