Team Description

The Land Drainage and Flood Risk Management Team plays a vital role in protecting communities, infrastructure and the environment across the Bradford District. Working as part of Planning, Transportation and Highways within the Growth Directorate, the team delivers the Council's responsibilities as the Lead Local Flood Authority and manages the Council's reservoir assets. We work collaboratively with partner organisations and regulatory bodies, and closely engage with local communities, developers and elected members to reduce flood risk, improve resilience and support sustainable development across the district.

Role And Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Engineer (Reservoirs) to join our dedicated Land Drainage and Flood Risk Management Team within the Growth Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to play a key role in managing the Council's reservoir responsibilities, delivering flood risk management projects and supporting sustainable development across the Bradford District.

As a technical specialist, you will provide expert advice on reservoir safety, flood risk management, drainage design and planning matters. You will help ensure the Council meets its statutory duties as both Reservoir Owner and Lead Local Flood Authority, whilst contributing to projects that protect communities from flooding and support the district's growth ambitions. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city.

The Main Responsibilities Of This Role
  • Ensure the Council fulfils its statutory responsibilities as both Lead Local Flood Authority and Reservoir Owner.
  • Provide technical expertise in flood risk assessment, drainage engineering and the design of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
  • Assess and provide specialist advice on planning applications in relation to surface water management and flood risk.
  • Oversee reservoir management activities, including maintenance programmes, procurement, contract administration and site supervision of engineering schemes.
  • Lead investigations into flooding incidents and prepare statutory flood investigation reports, whilst working closely with internal and external partners to deliver flood risk management solutions.
