The role

As a Senior Engineer within Mechanical Services, you are expected to have a strong track record in one or multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in. You will be a Mechanical Building Services Engineer, ideally with professional registration, with experience working on a variety of medium-sized projects and possibly managing small packages on large projects. You’ll be part of an enthusiastic team of Engineers and Technicians delivering high-quality output on projects.

Client care and repeat business are crucial to BakerHicks' success, so you’ll need to develop and nurture relationships with our clients (both internal and external).

What you will do

  1. Provide engineering design and consultancy services on behalf of BakerHicks under the guidance of the line manager or project lead.
  2. Produce design deliverables (drawings, specifications, reports), conduct site surveys, perform construction stage duties, liaise with clients and design/construction teams, manage projects, and control costs to ensure progress aligns with the project brief.
  3. Review calculations and detailed drawings to ensure designs meet quality, compliance, project, and customer requirements.
  4. Collaborate with multidisciplinary design team members to deliver safe, efficient, and buildable solutions.
  5. Assist in preparing enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimates, scopes of work, and change controls.

What you will need

  1. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), working towards Chartered Member status.
  2. Proven experience delivering projects in at least one of BakerHicks' sectors.
  3. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
  4. Ability to build long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Extensive experience in design, technical detailing, and specification writing.
  6. Experience contributing to bids, proposals, and tender documents.
  7. Technical expertise in designing Mechanical Building Services systems, including HVAC and Public Health.
  8. Understanding of project commercial aspects.
  9. Experience using specialist software such as Navisworks, NBS Create / Chorus.
