Job Description Summary

Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition. The purpose of this senior-level engineering role is to apply significant technical leadership and go beyond just engineering fundamentals. It is to encompass project management, mentoring, cross-functional collaboration, and innovation. Ensuring the highest levels of engineering information is available, applied and implemented. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical and cooling engineers, and external compliance experts to ensure that our products are robust, compliant, and manufacturable. You will lead teams to deliver the relevant aspects of assigned projects through design, investigation, testing and analysis. Collaborate with sourcing and third-party suppliers to ensure GE Vernova get best value and drive the delivery.

Role Summary / Overview

As a Senior Interdisciplinary Engineer (SPB3) within our HVDC Valve Engineering team, you will drive the development of market-leading valve designs that balance robustness, reliability, efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Operating at the intersection of electrical and mechanical engineering, you will serve as a technical authority, guiding product development from concept through testing, manufacturing, and installation. You will champion design excellence, safety compliance, and mentor the next generation of engineers while actively contributing to global industry standards.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Design Authority Serve as a designated technical authority and approver for critical design reviews, risk assessments, and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Collaborate cross-functionally across the business to ensure GE Vernova delivers the most robust, reliable, efficient, safe, and cost-effective valve designs to the market. Act as the primary technical anchor for critical decision-making regarding complex electro-mechanical interactions within HVDC valve systems.
  • Testing, Quality, & EHS Excellence Ensure the highest levels of safety are integrated into testing, manufacturing, and installation procedures, reflecting these rigorous standards within all technical documentation. Provide vital support during the testing lifecycle, including the review of Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), evaluation of test circuit designs/setups, and hands‑on physical presence during critical testing phases.
  • Documentation & Standards Compliance Author, review, and approve high-quality technical documentation, product specifications, and engineering reports. Ensure all internal documentation and designs strictly comply with relevant international standards; act proactively within industry forums and committees to shape the codes and standards of the future.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Mentorship Translate and communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders, executive leadership, and external customers. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, proactively developing technical competencies, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and sharing best practices across the team.
Candidate Profile
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related interdisciplinary engineering discipline.
  • Core Experience: Extensive, hands‑on experience in both the electrical and mechanical design and development of HVDC Valves or complex power electronics systems. Comprehensive end‑to‑end understanding of the elements associated with the design, manufacturing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site installation of HVDC Valves. Demonstrated track record of technical leadership, successfully guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams on a global scale.
  • Personal Attributes: Ability to thrive, collaborate, and lead effectively within diverse, multi-cultural global environments. Strong drive to acquire new skills, solve complex multi‑domain engineering problems, and foster a collaborative knowledge‑sharing culture. Agility to work quickly, efficiently, and decisively within a fast‑paced engineering organization.
  • Desired Characteristics
    • EHS Leadership: Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance, with relevant safety/environmental certifications or training.
    • Tools & Methodologies: Proficiency in engineering document control systems/methodologies; familiarity with CAD software (CREO preferred) for interpreting and reviewing technical drawings.
    • Communication & Influence: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; capable of interfacing credibly and effectively with all levels of the organization.
