Job summary

GE Vernova’s Grid Systems Integration seeks a Senior Engineer - Control System Performance to join the HVDC NPI team. You will act as a technical adviser, lead development within NPI programs for VSC HVDC control and protection, and contribute to roadmaps and standards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or related field focusing on control system solutions.
• Experience leading technical teams to deliver outputs to deadlines.
• Experience producing high-quality requirements, design, and test specifications.
• Strong experience developing control and protection algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Experience conducting EMT studies for power systems.
• Technical understanding of VSC and LCC HVDC technology.
• Willingness to travel for business as required.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical advisor to senior leadership and consulting engineers on HVDC control system performance.
• Lead development activities within New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes for VSC HVDC control and protection.
• Support the development and maintenance of the HVDC Control & Protection Algorithms technology roadmap and identify areas for future advancement.
• Drive internal and external standardisation activities, including representation in IEC, CIGRE, and similar professional bodies.
• Chair and contribute to technical and product development gate reviews and support robust design review execution.
• Support project teams in resolving technical challenges during tendering, delivery, and introduction of new solutions.
• Act as a technical authority in major quality issues and root cause analysis activities.
• Support competence development, technical education, and knowledge sharing across the organisation and external institutions.
• Contribute to patent evaluation, technology synergies across the business, and mentoring of engineering talent.

Job Description Summary

Within these systems, control and protection solutions are essential to enabling safe, efficient, and reliable operation and overall system performance. GE Vernova's Grid Systems Integration business is looking for an experienced Senior Engineer - Control System Performance to join the HVDC NPI team. This is a senior technical specialist role for an engineer who can act as a trusted consultant, strengthen design and review practices, lead advanced technology improvements, and support the development of high-performance HVDC control and protection solutions. You will play a key role in technical governance, innovation, quality improvement, and the long-term evolution of HVDC system capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a technical advisor to senior leadership and consulting engineers on HVDC control system performance

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related field focused on control system solutions, ideally with a power systems focus
• Experience leading technical teams to deliver high-quality outputs to business deadlines
• Experience producing high-quality requirements, design, and test specification documents
• Strong experience developing control and protection algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink
• Experience conducting EMT studies for power systems
• A technical understanding of VSC and LCC HVDC technology
• Deep knowledge of control algorithm principles, functional definition, implementation, control software architecture, interaction studies, grid forming control, and control system performance verification and validation
• Willingness to travel for business as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multi-terminal HVDC systems
• Experience with PSCAD simulation software
• Recognised expertise in HVDC control and protection algorithms
