As Valve Converter Electrical Project Delivery Team Manager, you will lead a Sub team and report to the Valve Electrical Team Leader who is responsibility for: Converter Valves Electrical Engineering & Technology Function for Converter Valves products development and design Valves electrical project engineering, electrical support for Valves manufacturing and aftersales. The responsibility of this Valve Converter Electrical Project Delivery Team is to deliver Valves electrical engineering covering valve design, valve type test and site pre-commissioning documents for tenders and projects by using standardised processes, tools, documentations. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and rapidly growing team of engineers working on the project activities related to HVDC applications. This is a very exciting and dynamic field of power engineering in which GE’s leading contribution has worldwide recognition to power global energy transition. The role gives an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to innovate, expand management skills, engineering skill and personal development within an internationally recognised expert in this exciting field. Whilst based at the HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford there will be international travel opportunities to collaborate with other GE units, test laboratories and customer sites. The role requires on-site work in Stafford, UK, 3 days a week (non-negotiable).
HVDC/Tendering: The successful candidate must have advanced experience in HVDC tendering. The role is 50–60% hands‑on engineering/design (reviewing calculations, simulations, site tests) and 40–50% leadership (mentoring a sub‑team of 5–6 engineers, resource allocation, and project delivery). Experience Profile: While HVDC experience is ideal, we are open to candidates from the automotive (traction inverters) or power supply industries who can quickly learn the higher‑wattage power electronics required. System-Level Perspective: A candidate with “full-cycle” experience (concept, prototype, test, manufacturing support) is highly desirable, as this helps with the prioritisation and quality control required in tendering. Operational Constraints: Location: The role requires on-site work in Stafford, UK, three days a week (non‑negotiable).
The candidate will be educated to degree level in electrical or electronic engineering and have significantly demonstrated experience in Power Electronics Converter design. Candidates must have proven experience of the design and/or development of power electronic converters (preferably at high power >1MVA). An advanced understanding of power semiconductors, their control, protection and application is required. Previous experience of management of technical issues with client and contract is preferred. An enquiring mind and desire to learn new skills, an ability to apply different engineering disciplines and a willingness to share the knowledge are essential qualities.
