Job summary

Galliford Try in Selby is seeking a Senior Engineer for an £8m highways project. You will take full responsibility for setting out, engineering control and quality, and you will coordinate and mentor the site engineering team on this Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) scheme.

This role focuses on delivering multi-modal transport facilities, improving walking and cycling provisions, reducing congestion, and delivering greener infrastructure in Selby town centre.

Qualifications

  • Work safely and proficiently interpret data and drawings.
  • Advanced setting out skills, including Level, EDM, and GPS knowledge.
  • Relevant civil engineering experience (Highways, Rail, Water, Aviation).
  • Strong leadership, delegation, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and assist in project planning and resource coordination.
  • Manage subcontractor performance to ensure alignment with project timelines.
  • Write, review, and implement RAMS, ITPs and RTMs.
  • Supervise site engineering team, delegate tasks, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Control project schedules, attend coordination meetings, and update progress as required.
  • Ensure work complies with project specifications, raise design-related RFIs and TQs, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Communicate with the commercial team for accurate financial reporting, manage snagging systems, and minimize site waste.

Senior Engineer
Location - Selby
Purpose of the role:

As Senior Engineer based on our new £8m project in Selby, you will take full responsibility for setting out, engineering control and quality in addition to coordinating and mentoring the site engineering team.

This is a new highways scheme in Selby town centre as part of the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF).

The scheme aims to deliver multi-modal transport facilities, including improvements in walking and cycling with new cycling provisions, reduction of traffic flow and congestion, with carbon and environmental benefits, to deliver greener infrastructure.

What you will be doing:
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and assist in project planning and resource coordination.
  • Manage subcontractor performance to ensure alignment with project timelines.
  • Write, review, and implement Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Supervise site engineering team, delegate tasks, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Control project schedules, attend coordination meetings, and update progress as required.
  • Ensure work complies with project specifications, raise design-related RFIs and TQs, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Communicate with the commercial team for accurate financial reporting, manage snagging systems, and minimize site waste.
About you:
