Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a Section Engineer for the Banwell bypass project. The role focuses on setting out, engineering control and quality assurance to deliver works safely and to the required standards.

You will work with the Site Agent and project team to coordinate activities, support colleagues and contribute to a positive, collaborative environment on a major infrastructure scheme.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to safe working practices and high quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, data and technical information for on-site use.
  • Experience with setting-out using Level, EDM and GPS on civil works.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment and ensure health, safety and quality compliance.
  • Support planning, coordination and resourcing of site activities to meet programme.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and site teams to meet safety and programme goals.
  • Prepare and review RAMS and ITPs to meet specs and quality standards.
  • Provide guidance to site engineering team and delegate tasks to engineers.
  • Monitor progress through programme controls and lookahead planning.
  • Maintain accurate QA records, RFIs, TQs and test results.
  • Support cost control, reporting and snag management with commercial teams.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across disciplines.

Job description

Role – Section Engineer
Location – Banwell
Purpose of the role

As a Section Engineer on Galliford Try’s Banwell Bypass project, you will be responsible for setting out, engineering control and quality assurance, helping to ensure works are delivered safely, accurately and to the required standards.

You will work closely with the Site Agent and wider project team to coordinate site activities, support the development of colleagues and contribute to a positive, collaborative working environment.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of a major infrastructure project while developing your experience within a supportive project team.

What will you be doing?
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with health, safety and quality requirements.
  • Support the Site Agent with planning, coordinating and resourcing site activities to meet programme requirements.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and site teams to help ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
  • Prepare, review and implement RAMS and ITPs, ensuring works meet the required specification, quality and inspection standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to members of the site engineering team, including delegating tasks and sharing knowledge with less experienced engineers.
  • Monitor progress through programme controls, coordination meetings and short-, medium- and long-term lookaheads.
  • Maintain accurate site records and documentation, including QA records, as-built information, RFIs, TQs and test results.
  • Work closely with commercial colleagues to support cost control, reporting, early warnings, compensation events and snag management.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, subcontractors and other project stakeholders, adapting your approach to different audiences and working styles.
About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is committed to safe working practices and maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Can read and interpret drawings, data and technical information and apply this effectively on site.
  • Has strong setting-out skills using Level, EDM and GPS, alongside relevant civil engineering experience.
  • Can organise and prioritise their own work, while supporting others to deliver shared project objectives.
  • Demonstrates leadership, communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Takes a collaborative approach and is comfortable working with people from different disciplines and levels of experience.
  • Is willing to learn, share knowledge and support the development of colleagues.
  • Holds, or is working towards, an NVQ Level 3 or above, and has SMSTS and CSCS certification.
  • Has experience using Microsoft Office 365 and CAD software.
